Padouk Plinth Thorens TD160 MKI

I finished a couple of new plinths for my Thorens TD 160 MK1 turntable. My Thorens was still sitting in his original plinth, so it was about time I finished a couple new ones.

This one is made out of a large piece of Padouk, plinth dimensions are 80mm high and 28mm thick. I’ve raised the height a little, so I could fit in a 12mm MDF base plate.

The new plinth is heavy, dense and should improve sound (dampen vibration), as well as being a significant aesthetic improvement over the stock wood.

Finished it with 3 layers Barend Palm boat oil and 1 layer Barend Palm yacht varnish.

Woodworking matters. It's more than a hobby—being a woodworker means that you know the satisfaction and pride that comes from using your hands and mind to build beautiful, functional objects and that you're as interested in the process as the outcome. Amid the speed and chaos of the modern world, woodworking gives us a place where we can slow down, pay attention and take the time to do things right.
